Cullinan Diamond Mine Tour

Tuesday, March 25, 2014  Kaia Manzi – Cullinan Diamond Mine  -  Manyane Resort
We headed this morning to the Cullinan Diamond Mine for a tour.  It is one of the largest diamond Mines in the world established in 1902.  The large diamonds in the British Monarch’s Scepter and crown have come from this mine.  We saw the large site of the original mining but now it is all done underground with large tunnels that trucks can fit in.  It was very interesting.

Following a great buffet lunch, we headed to Manyane resort.
I need to remark on driving practices here.  Two lane roads are considered 3 lane roads especially if there is any portion of paved breakdown lane.  If a car comes up behind you, you are expected to move over so he can pass taking up part of your lane and the oncoming lane. If a car is passing coming towards you in your lane, it is your responsibility to take evasive action in the break down lane.  This even occurs in construction areas which are posted no passing.  Take this policy plus the animals and school children walking in the road and it is amazing that we get where we are planning to go.

As I have sat here in the motorhome trying to write this, a baboon has gotten into the garbage can at our site, three Impalas and two warthogs have nibbled on our grass, and the guinea hens are chasing after each other.  We also have many spectacular birds here.
